Why live-in care suits many people across Cork, Limerick and Kerry

Moving out of a home you have lived in for decades is a huge decision. Live-in care means you do not have to. Instead of leaving the house, the street and the people you know, you bring the care to you.

A live-in carer becomes a steady presence in the home. They are there in the morning to help you get up and have breakfast, there for the afternoon walk or the visit from the grandchildren, and there in the evening and overnight if you need help or reassurance.

That steady presence matters. It lowers the risk of falls going unnoticed, helps with medication and meals, and gives family members who live far away, or are stretched with work and children, real peace of mind.

Live-in care or a nursing home?

Comparing your options in Cork honestly

Choosing between live-in care and a nursing home is one of the hardest decisions a family makes. There is no single right answer, and we would never push you towards live-in care if it is not safe or suitable.

Live-in care keeps you in your own home with one-to-one attention. A nursing home provides round-the-clock nursing on site and shared facilities. Costs, needs and personal wishes all matter. We will talk through the real differences with you and your family, and give you a written quote you can compare with other options.

Live-in care questions answered

How does live-in care work day to day?

Your carer lives in your home, with their own bedroom, and supports you through the day. Most live-in carers have a break during the day, and we arrange cover so you are never without support. Where you need regular help during the night, we discuss that when we plan your care.

Does the carer need their own room?

Yes. A live-in carer needs a private bedroom and reasonable access to the bathroom and kitchen. If you are unsure whether your home is suitable, our manager will look at this during your free assessment.

What happens when my carer is off or unwell?

We arrange cover with another Garda vetted carer who is introduced to you, and we phone you to make sure everything is in place. Continuity matters to us, so we plan handovers carefully.

How much does live-in care cost?

The cost depends on the level of support you need, including nights. We give you a clear written quote after your free assessment, and we explain how it compares with other options, including a nursing home.

Is live-in care suitable for someone with dementia?

Often it is, because one familiar person in a familiar home can be calming. We will talk through your situation honestly. See our dementia care page for more.
